Celebration of 175th Anniversary of Ferryhill, Aberdeen.

More Information (Original 106 is not responsible for external websites)

Ferryhill Railway Heritage Trust (FRHT) is holding an Open Day to celebrate the 175th Anniversary of the establishment of the railway in Aberdeen.

On 16th March 1850, the first train crossed the viaduct over the River Dee and arrived at a station at Ferryhill. The station building no longer exists, but the associated engine shed is now occupied by FRHT, and the Trust is celebrating this important anniversary on Sunday 16th of March 2025, at 11am.
On that day we are holding the official opening of the Trust’s newly renovated shed containing our museum, workshops and water tower.
Tim Hedley-Jones, the Executive Director of the Railway Heritage Trust is performing the ceremony. Later in the day – 3pm, Keith Jones, author of The Railways of Aberdeen: 150 years of History, will be giving a talk on the history of the Ferryhill site and the railway.

The Trust’s premises still play an important part in the railway in Aberdeen 175 years later, as steam excursions can only come to the city as the locomotives can be turned on the Trust’s refurbished 1906 turntable.

Visitors are very welcome on the 16th. The site opens at 10am and closes at 4pm. Visit our workshops and rolling stock, and meet our volunteers.
We look forward to seeing you.
